On the 26th February 2007 Youthlaw in partnership with the Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission (VEOHRC) held a one-day human rights youth forum which attracted approximately 70 youth delegates from across Victoria.
The forum was intended to provide an opportunity to:
- educate and raise awareness among young people about human rights and the new Charter of Human Rights and Responsibilities
- examine human rights issues of particular relevance to young people
- identify strategies young people could use to address human rights issues in their local communities.
The forum incorporated a program of speakers, breakout interactive sessions introducing key human right themes and workshops examining key issues in detail.
Findings of the Youth Forum were presented to the open plenary session at VEOHRC Human Rights Conference on Tuesday 27th February by advisory group members.
